In the short time that Rex had been assigned to the Top Champion, he had said about nine whole words before muttering to himself in a mixture of delirium and bashfulness. The pop idol looked as at home at Sea Mauville as Rex did at a M.M rave party. Still, that didn't stop the young trainer from looking at Melody and looking away when she looked back.

"Eheheh... Top Champ..." Rex giggled to himself as they descended deeper into the preserve. There were supposed to be a handful of people stuck in a men's restroom somewhere. With the entrance blockaded by rubble, assistance was desperately needed. "Eheheh..."

A simple task made difficult by Rex's unprofessionalism. He gave her another look, before turning away and shaking in excitement.

Sparking wires dangled overhead as they descended. Rex made a point to bob and weave around them.

It was like last time she came here with jayden cross. However this time instead of a ghost whispering in her ear with a wicked laughter, there was a strange man who was with her. She had wanted to talk to get to know him closer but it seemed like he was the shy type.[break][break]

Her hatterene taps on her shoulder and points towards the man who was with them. Melody nods "Try to focus on negative feelings going on, im sure those people stuck here are scared." she looks to her rescue partner and scratches the back of her head as she puts her hand behind her back and flicks her fingers upwards and then down as her hair momentarily floats while he wasn't looking at her. Her psychic abilities rip the cables out of the wall to disconnect them all and render them harmless. "Good job hatterene!" she says as the pokemon was confused. [break][break]

She was trying to hide her avatar abilities, she wanted the element of surprise against rocket. "By the way, Rex was it? I'm not sure what you're feeling right now but hatterene is trying to tell me it's distracting her. You good?" she asks him

"Eheh..." Rex giggled again as Melody's Hatterene pushed the cables out of the way with a firm psychic push. As the cables fell link, the young trainer continued to cackle. "Eheheh... eh?"

He stopped suddenly, regarding Melody with the bright eyed idealization of a loving fan. She could practically see the sparkles reflected in his eyes. He was one fan out of millions, an aspiring trainer out of thousands. One that would likely be buried in the annals of history and Team Rocket's heel.

"Oh, sorry. It's just that..." He paused, thoughtful, as if attempting to organize his thoughts. "It's really hard to believe..."

His shouts echoed through Sea Mauville as he opened his mouth again.

"I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M IN THE SAME ROOM AS THE TOP CHAMP! I CAN'T WAIT TO BEAT YOU WHEN I MAKE IT TO EVER GRANDE!"

He suddenly bursts into a loud shout that practically shakes the fucked up foundation of this place. She panics momentarily and places a finger over her mouth "Shhh!" she urges him as she didn't manage to quickly mute the area quick enough. If she did that she'd also alert him to her abilities. With how rabid he was...who knew how quickly he'd start to spread it. [break][break]

She had to be cunning. [break][break]

Cackling can be heard, the ghost pokemon in the area were alerted to their presence. One gengar emerges at the end of the hall and starts to bum rush the pair from the path that they had just traversed. "Shit! We got to go!" she says as Melody grabs Rex Drago's hand and starts to pull him down the hall. Hatterene follows behind them as it was still concentrated on detecting the emotions of the fearful rangers. [break][break]

After the hallway ends, they arrive to a bigger room that gave them more room. The gengar throws a SHADOW BALL towards the group and hatterene focuses on firing back a DARK PULSE to repel the attack. She falls and rolls giving REX time to fight back against the gengar as Melody tried to get back up.

A Gengar? Here? Unlucky!

Yet still, Rex wanted to throw hands with the phantom Pokémon. He could beat it! He could totally beat it! While Melody's Hatterene danced with the specter, Rex tapped a Pokeball, causing a Gallade to appear in a flash. The knight had recently evolved when facing dire circumstances, and it was keen to test its power.

It closed its eyes and kissed the Aqua Cutter emerging from its blades, which grew to the size of the room. As Melody offered an opportunity for retaliation, Gallade opened his eyes.

And the Gengar's afterlife began to end.

A blade split the ghost's body in two as Rex started to help Melody to her feet. He was helping her. Her! One of the strongest trainers in the region!

"You good, Top Champ?"

Rex finishes off the Gengar when she gets back up and she looks around quickly. Usually when one spirit appeared, several other smaller ones lingered. She accepts the hand that Rex Drago gave her to get back up quickly.[break][break]

Her hatterne suddenly panics as Melody looks at her expression and understands immediately what's happening. "It's not over yet!" she warns him as Melody recalls the hatterene and sends out her Alolan Marowak. "Get them marowak!" she orders as the marowak flourishes it's ghost bone with twin flames that light up the room and reveal the hidden ghost pokemon ready to strike them while their guards were down. [break][break]

"They're why hatterene cant find those trapped rangers! Get em!" she says as the ghostly flame continues to grow and starts to burn away at some of the spirit's souls she looks to rex to see how he'd follow up.

A low cackle left Rex's lips. His breath fogged as his eyes narrowed into slits.

"Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah..." Rex took another deep breath as the Marowak continued to dance among the souls of the dead. Departed souls were incinerated and turned to cinders, yet they still persisted in this world as imprints left behind. "Haaaaaaaaaaah..."

Battle. Conflict. Littleroot burning flashed in the young trainer's mind. Dialga overhead. Rocket's boots shook the earth. Melody was strong. She was strong. He wanted to be as good as her. He wanted to be her.

He wanted to best her.

"Go! Dance!" Gallade's eyes narrowed into slits as he danced between spirits. Marowak's fire jumped to Gallade's blades as the duo slashed through the spirits through Psycho Cut. "We'll save them! Champ, find the rangers! I'll hold them off!"

Keep fighting.

The hatterene is sent back out as gallade dances a beautiful psychic dance that pushes more of the spirits back. [break][break]

She spots a room behind them and tries to open the door, it's stuck for a moment before marowak slams it's bone through the doorframe and smashes it open for her. She finds the rangers that were missing right behind them and sees them sleeping...peacefully, their faces pale...[break][break]

She realizes what's going on in an instant "They're being cursed! they're feeding off of them!" she warns Althus Rex. They all had to be defeated for the rangers to wake back up. Marowak returns back to the battle and dances alongside gallade in a duet of psychic energy and ghostly flames. She checks on their bodies for any injuries and tries to jolt them awake. "Finish em off althus!" she encourages him as she unknowingly enhances both him and his pokemon with her voice.

Gallade doesn't know why his arm strengthens, why his blade is lighter, why his reflexes are quicker. They simply are. Maybe it's the spur of the moment, the heat of battle, the energy dripping off of his trainer as his fervor reaches its zenith. He simply demands all that Gallade has to offer.

His absolute best in every battle, every clash, every war. Until victory is reached, until a point to the slaughter is found, the duo fight.

Which is why the Gengar is cut in half with a scream, before dissipating into dark mist. Any other ghosts are swiftly dispatched, thanks to Melody's influence.

"Thanks, Top Champ!" Rex grinned from ear to ear as he turned to face Melody. His clothes were splattered with dark ichor and shadows as a reminder of the Gengar's existence. He didn't seem disgusted, though. Moreso excited. "How're the people? They good? Anything else for me to fight?"
